While you watched this video, five things happened to your body. You did not notice any of them.

One. Your eyes are blind for about two hours every day. Every time they jump from one point to another, your brain mutes the visual signal. The effect is called saccadic suppression. You're scrolling right now. You just missed seconds of footage. Your brain edited it out.

Two. You shed roughly one billion skin cells today. About forty thousand every minute. Most of the dust on your phone screen, on your desk, in your home? That is you.

Three. Your heart is not on a clock. It speeds up when you breathe in. It slows down when you breathe out. The pattern is called sinus arrhythmia. About ninety percent of healthy people have it. It is a sign your vagus nerve is working.

Four. Roughly one in three adults right now has microscopic Demodex mites living on their eyelashes. By age seventy it is closer to everyone. They eat your dead skin while you sleep.

Five. Your body contains roughly thirty eight trillion bacterial cells. That is more cells than your own. You are not a single organism. You are a moving ecosystem.
